General Information
How do I change class?
Equip different weapon, Every Class/Job has its own Main hand item: Bow, Javelin, Pickaxe, Needle, ECT… essentially every Combat class / Crafting / Gathering Job has its own weapon you can buy and equip (Crafting buy and equip both Main and Secondary Items)
Assigning abilities/skills:
Main Menu > Actions and Traits > select an empty square > Select the grey drop down arrow at the top right.
Where is my 2nd starter skill?
Follow storyline quest to Way Point and then once done go back to town and speak with~
In LL: Talk To Baderon in Drowding Wench Adventurer’s guild
In Grid: Talk to Miounne in ‘Adventurer’s guild
In Uld: Talk to Momodi in The Hour Glass ‘Adventurer’s guild’.
I'm doing main storyline quest where do I go next?
Normally there are 2 things you may need to do: first check NPC Linkshell to see if it is yellow or white and click on (press enter) if it is one of those colors. Second open up your journal and open it to the quest, there is a map button on the lower left corner which will tell you where you need to go next and sometimes who to speak too.
Guardian Favor, what is this about? (Use sparingly)
At start of game you get 200 Guardian Favor points, you regenerate 10 of these points every 12 hours (I don't know if you have to be online at the time, but I don't think so). When you initiate leve quests you can ask for Guardian's Favor for a specified amount (normally 10). This favor gives you double the experience and double the skill points you would normally get for killing the quest mobs.
I’m DEAD!!! What do I do?
Return to last Crystal you touched simply by going to Main Menu > Return; it cost no Anima when you die nor is there XP Debt and only 2-3 minutes res-sickness.
What is a Behest?
Behests are like Battleleves (Quests) that anyone in area can join up and do. A guard appears at the every crystal hourly @ 0:00 and leave to start quest @ 0:05. It’s usually solo-able ~ +4-6 Leves above area so if the crystal is 20 you’ll have to get a group @ Rank 20, but Rank 25 you should be able to solo it. These are a great way to get skill ups. And you get reward of some Gil at the end. (Had lots of Party Fun with these)
Teleportation (Use sparingly)
• Start off with 100 Anima.
• Touching a crystal for the first time allows you to Teleport there.
• Touching crystal also binds you to it as your Homepoint for KO or 'Return'.
• You can teleport and all party members near you can hitch a ride for free.
• Teleport from menu uses 4 Anima locally.
• Teleport from menu uses 6 Anima regionally (if you change areas).
• Return only uses 2 Anima.
• If you are KO'ed it uses none.
• Anima regenerates 1/12 hours and no way to replace it at the moment.
Where can I create a Linkshell?
In LL: Miqote near bar in drowning wench (starting bar area) in all white.
In Grid: Emoni in ‘Adventurer’s guild’. (Right of main desk)
In Uld: Sesebaru in The Hour Glass ‘Adventurer’s guild’.
Guildmark Rewards:
Are rewarded for certain Leve’s pay attention to rewards and pick one for the Job you wish to earn points. You must play as that class.
• • Limsa Lominsa: Marauders • - • Fishermen, Blacksmith, Armorer, and Culinary
• • Gridania: • - Archer, Lancer, Conjurer • - • Botanist, Carpenter, and Leatherworker
• • Ul’Dah: • - Puglist, Thaumaturgy, Gladiators • - • Miner, Goldsmith, Weaver and Alchemist
Leveling/Quests Answers
Why can't I Attack? / How do I regen HP?
Press "F" to switch from Passive Mode to Active Mode, in Active mode you can attack. In Passive mode you can do everything else including Regenerate HP.
Why can't I Reload or Change Gear or Assign Abilities?
In order to change gear or Assign Abilities you must be in Passive mode. I also strongly suggest creating macro's to change jobs and update the macros whenever you get new gear/abilities you wish to use.
How do I regen MP?
• Going back to crystal regenerates 100% HP/MP
• As Conjurer you get Tranquility restores ~65% mp with cool down time of 10 minutes.
• At level 10 you get a TP attack that restores small amounts of MP.
As currently arranged the system allows usage of MP at a lower pace, than most of us are use too. While during quests you can unload MP
Where to I get Quests?
In LL: Upper Deck in the Drowning Wench Regional and Guildleves 2 people behind small desks.
In Grid: Gontrant (Regional leves) and Tierney (Local Leves) in ‘Adventurer’s guild’.
In Uld : Totonawa (Regional leves) and Eustace (Local Leves) in The Hour Glass ‘Adventurer’s guild’.
You are restricted to 8 Regional leve and 8 Guild leve’s every 48 hours;
I DC’d during quest… how can I redo it?
Currently there is no way and you have failed the quests.
Umm ½ the party died and we can’t res…. HELP!?
Those who didn’t die must switch to Active mode and back to Passive mode. After a few seconds everyone in party can Return.
You have no exchangeable leves:
You hit the 8 Regional leve per 48 hour cap. Once you are past 48 hours you can exchange old finished or not quests for new leve’s.
Why do I have “Surplus Skills”?
Once you earn too many skill points/day they start penalizing you 10% and make earning skill point more difficult. Refered too as a Fatigue System, there are different levels of Surplus and it becomes harder and harder to level. It’s a good time to go level another job… SE said they were going to relax the amount that was in Beta, but if you are gathering it becomes near impossible to gather anymore. This does go away when you stop leveling, but will stay for 2 days if you deep into it. And the surplus number is totally reset once a week.
What is the Fatigue System?
FFXIV Fatigue Explained! is the best explanation I’ve seen.
"You are now at Skill Surplus Level 3"... Huh?
Now you have officially been cut off... time to take out the needle of playing whatever class you've been playing and do something else; in the game or out of the game. You are officially fatigue, and only time will heal it.
Auction House / Market Information
What are Retainers?
Essentially they are mules who sale goods for you and hold extra gear/material. SE does not have plans to put an auction house into the game. They will eventually put in a search feature to find retainers whose goods you want, but currently isn’t available. (Trying to get rid of AH wars and Gold Farmers)
Where do I attain a Retainer?
In LL: Elf behind the bar in Drowning Wench. (Starting area bar)
In Grid: Gyles in ‘Adventurer’s guild’.
In Uld: Thaisie in The Hour Glass ‘Adventurer’s guild’.
Where are the Market wards?
In LL: Upper floor, look on map for "Southern Islands",
In Grid: “Lotus Gardens” on the map.
In Uld: Near Crystal labeled “The Dunes” on map.
Get there and open main menu, select "teleport" to various market wards.
Equipment in FFXIV is not level restricted?
The equipment actually grows with you if you equip it earlier than its Optimized Rank. For Example: A Rank 7 the gear would have +10 Def, but if you are rank 3 it only has +6 Def.
The good: is that equipment ranked higher than you are is going to be stronger and basically level with you.
The bad: it’s going to be more expensive to fix higher level damaged gear, plus if the gear is way above your Rank, lower Ranked gear might give you better Stats.
What is the Yellow/Red debuff
It indicates your gear is damaged the durability of the item falls too much the effects of the equipment goes down, so you should try to keep your equipment above 50% quality.
How much do I pay others for repairs?
Depends on the material required to fix it + Tip; this is a real pet peeve of mine. Seeing people wanting things fixed for 100g which vendor will fix a level 1 item for… a general rule could be level of the item x 100… level 16 – 1600. 1 x bolt Cotton Cloth cost 3200gil, items aren’t cheap! (Any other crafters input requested)
Where do I fix my Equipment Durability?
• In Grid & LL: There person in the Market Area who will fix it to 75%. (11 Trade Goods store area)
• In Uld: The person is across street from chocobo stables. 75%
• Put equipment in bazaar with enough money to pay for cost of repair item & Tip. 100%
• You can also fix Equipment by learning the craft and getting the required item to fix it. 100%
Crafting Questions…
I keep blowing up my craft what am I doing wrong?
Generally it seems that crafting is a game of rock paper scissors, while partially this is true overall it is not. If you’re blowing it up without getting much % done your probably trying something to hard.
If it is not too hard generally I go Normal > Normal > Wait > Normal... If it pops wait and try again. Toward the end if you’re low on durability try rapid. Based on situation... if you know it’s going to be hard to make you may want to start with Rapid. When it becomes unstable Rapid and Bold are very risky.
How do I know what to make?
A nice recipe lists: here (ffxivrecipes.info)
or here (YG.com)
Do crafting jobs have traits?
Yes every craft even gathers get special traits at level 10.
Every Craft has special abilities granted to them at certain levels, if you plan to be a serious crafter you may want to consider leveling multiple crafts to the point you get the special ability. (Especially if it remains @ 10)
Abilities lvl 10:
Armory --- Blinding Speed: Temporarily increases the rate of success for rapid synthesis.
Alchemy --- ####: Increase effectiveness of Touch up.
Blacksmith --- Maker’s Muse: Temporary increases rate of success for standard synthesis.
Carpenter --- Tender Touch: Lesson Durability damage.
Culinary --- Harmonize: Reduces Risk. Most effective for finished items.
Goldsmith --- Epiphany: Increases chances for improved craftsmanship of next synthesis.
Leatherworker --- Fulfillment: Temporarily increases rate of success.
Weaving --- Masterpiece: Increase rate of success for bold.
Level 15 Ability:
Hasty Hand: Advances Synthesis Process (For parts one click done *Can fail*)
Macro Information
What are macro's for in FFXIV?
One of the Primary uses of macro's in FFXIV is for changing Job/Classes and to equip your action bar. Every time you switch your main weapon you switch your job and all the Action Bars go away. You might have different gear for different jobs you wish to use as well. IE Crafting +Control +Quality +Mag. Quality gear vs Mage +MND +Int Gear vs +Dex Gear for Pugilist/Archer/Lancer. The other use it to perform spells without having to select the target or multiple Buffs you wish to cast on yourself @ start of fight.
How do I make macros?
Main Menu > Configure > Macro
Macro's are currently limited too 10 lines /macro, after the 10th line it doesn't work. It will take ~2-3 Macros to change Gear/Action bars for classes after a certain level.
What is Macro Syntax?
Equip Items:
/equip [Slot] “Item Name” /equip main "Weathered War Axe"
Setup Action Bar:
/equipaction [Location #] “Action Name” /equipaction 2 "Broad Swing"
1-30 for Action Bar and 1-10 for Gathering & Synthesizing.
Cast Spell / Use action:
/action “Action/Spell Name” [Target] /ac "Cure" <me> or /action "Cure" <t>
